Maybe life is fair...

Fair : impartial and just

"Life isn't fair." Let's be real, everyone has said these words at one time or another in their life. Maybe some of you have said these very words just this very month or week, or maybe you even said some iteration of these words just today. But what if anyone who has said these words has actually been wrong? What if life actually indeed is fair?

Maybe fairness is giving something exactly what it needs. And maybe that's exactly what life does. Deserts and rain forests don't have the same needs, but when each of them are given what they individually need, they flourish into something resilient and beautiful. As humans, each of us needs different things to help us grow and flourish. We each gain resiliency through different challenges and experiences.

What each of us needs in order to guide us toward becoming the best version of ourselves is as intricate, complicated, and unique as we are. And if we were all given the exact same thing - experiences, hardships, abilities, etc. - then the very thing required to make us the best we can be would be missing from our lives. To many, living amidst that missing component would be the thing that actually is unfair.

If the desert and rain forest received the same amount of water, would that be fair? One would thrive and the other die.

So, is life equitable? No. Is life always kind? No. Is life, in many ways at least, fair? I'd argue...Yes.

With Gratitude,
